Coming under the Violet Line of 3rd Phase extension of Delhi Metro whose Janpath Station is an important landmark today. The purpose behind starting this parallel metro line was to keep control over the rushes which corresponding busy Yellow Line corridor had faced. It is meant to offer extra avenues to travelers to have easy access to Blue Line metro which connects Central Secretariat through Mandi House station. It was on June 26, 2014 that this station was inaugurated and made operational.
It was in April 2013 that 1,516-metre tunnel on Mandi House-Janpath stretch of Delhi Metro’s 3rd Phase expansion project came into limelight. Tunnel was completed through the project’s 182 excavation work continued constantly. It is interesting to know that this 5.8 dia tunnel passes under the famous locations of Delhi such as Janpath Market, American Centre, Fulbright House, Nepal Embassy, Antariksh Bhawan and Scindia House et al.
With a target to ease the highly congested Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, the new metro station brought ample relief for the travelers. It eased traffic of Rajiv Chowk whose estimated daily passengers are more than 300,000. The phase 3 project of Delhi metro therefore added more 140 km journey to ease travels for commuters travelling by Delhi Metro and so does it cover Delhi metropolis approximately 75 areas.
